Creating and editing pages
The following section explains the standard method of page creation and editing here at FCVG.

The easiest method of creating pages is by using our form. If you prefer to have a more customizable experience you can create a page by search, then edit it with the visual editor or the source editor. These editors (especially the source editor) allows for more advanced formating using the relatively simple but powerful Wikitext markup language.

<small>Keep in mind that any contribution you do must be approved by a moderator before being published. Meanwhile you can keep editing your page as many times as you'd like, but changes are not visible to others until your contribution has been approved.</small>

<big>Quick guide:</big>

# Upload any pictures you want to use for your new page.
# Input the title of the page you want to create.
# Fill out the form fields and click "Save page". Done!

Create page by search
If you don't want to follow our form you can simply type the title of the page you want to create into the search box at the top right of the page. This will take you to the search results and a red link to the new page (if it doesn't exist).

By clicking the red link you are taken directly to the source editor and can start creating. You can also switch to the visual editor whenever you like for visually creating the page. You can read more about editing without the form in the editor tables below.

Edit page with Visual Editor
Certifications||
This is a user friendly way to edit wiki pages, and you only should know very basic wikitext to be able to use this editor to its full potential.

While inside a page you can press the Edit tab at the top. This will take you to the visual editor. Here you can write page content as you want directly onto the page, as the visual editor works similarily to any other word processing software like Word.

Note: If you're editing a page created with the form you must use Edit with form.

The infobox on the right side of the page can be double-clicked to bring up the template form. If you want to add additional information into the infobox you can check the boxes in the left menu to add extra rows. Simply fill in all the input fields within the form and press apply.

To upload a cover photo to be inserted into the image input field, upload the image by pressing the Upload file link at the left sidebar, or by using the button within the editor. Then just type the image name in the input field and it will come up as a suggestion:

The image name can be found on the uploaded image page, or you can open the image and copy it directly from the browser URL.

Note: The maximum size limit per image is 1MB.

That's it! You should now be able to create and edit pages throughout the wiki without writing much (or any) code.
If you get stuck somewhere don't hesitate to ask for help. Now get the fork outta here and create some pages!

The visual editor is known for its easy to use interface, yet powerful functions. It works in a similar fashion to Word and enables you to write text directly onto the page, while using the toolbar at the top to style the text or insert images, galleries, tables, links and references (Cite dropdown).

Preferences
In the preferences of your account you can change your password and set your preferred language among many other things. Keep in mind that pages you create on the site must be in English. You can find the link to your account preferences at the top right of the site while logged in.
<br>
Page creation
The following section explains the standard method of page creation here at FCVG. You can use Wikitext in the source editor, which is a markup language consisting of syntax to format pages in MediaWiki.
<br>
<br>
To enter the source editor, make sure that the Create source option is enabled from the top menu when creating a new page.

<br>
If you are editing an existing page the option will be named Edit source.

Infobox
Wikitext basics
Infoboxes are commonly used to display important information about the topic of each page. They are usually placed to the right of the rest of the page content. To achieve this we place the following Wikitext code at the top of the page.
Wikitext allows you to style your page content to your needs. It's relatively easy to use and gives you full control over the page design. You can toggle on the preview window in the source editor to see the changes to your content in real time.

Infobox
Infoboxes are tables commonly used to display important information about the topic of each page. They are usually placed to the upper right of the rest of the page content. To achieve this we place the following code to the top of the page within the source editor:
<pre>
<pre>

Line break and headers
Publisher(s)||
To make a line break in the text, simply use the following tag:
<pre><br></pre>
Platform(s)||
Headers are used to divide text into sections. It also automatically creates the contents box at the top of the page, linking to the sections making it easier to navigate for the reader. To make a header 1 text place your text within two equals signs:
<pre>= My header 1 text =</pre>

Use four equal signs for secondary headlines:
<pre>== My header 2 text ==</pre>

Or six equal signs for header 3:
<pre>=== My header 3 text ===</pre>

Links
Genre(s)||
To add internal links just wrap the link to the page you want to link to using double brackets:
<pre>Link to internal page</pre>

To make a custom link text do this:
<pre>Custom link text</pre>

To add external links use single brackets, and separate the URL from the custom text at the end like this:
<pre>Example custom text</pre>

Categories
Mode(s)||
Category is a MediaWiki namespace where other pages within the category are listed alphabetically. The category namespace is different from the main namespace by having the prefix Category: in front of the page name. For example, the Video Games category consists of all pages on the site that are video games. To make your page part of the video games category, you would simply write the following at the bottom of the page.
<pre></pre>
You can add as many categories as you see appropriate for each page. If you insert a category that doesn't exist, it will give a red link at the very bottom of the page, and if you click the red link it will take you to the page creation of the new category. FCVG category pages should be simple and informative, with a short definition or explanation of what it is about.

If you want to display a link to a category, for example within the infobox on your page, use a colon sign after the brackets like this:
<pre>Single-player</pre>
</pre>

Let's break down the code above:
* { and } marks the beginning and end of the code snippet.

* class states that this is an infobox.
Images
* style takes care of positioning of content and coloring of text and backgrounds.
* colspan tells MediaWiki to merge cells in the table together.
To upload an image to use on your page you can press the Upload file link in the left sidebar of the page:
* | placed to the left is used to create a new column.

* || is used to create columns within a row.

* - creates a new row.

If you are currently editing a page navigate to the Images and media button in the toolbar of the editor:

To use your uploaded image on your page, simply place the image file name into file tags like this:
<pre></pre>

The image file name can be found on the uploaded image page, or you can open the image and copy it directly from the browser URL.

Images
To simply upload an image to use on your page you can press the Images and media button in the editor.

Note: The maximum size limit per image is 1MB.

Gallery
If you want to include an image gallery to your page you can press the Picture gallery button in the editor or use the following tags with the image source and text separated by |.

Gallery
If you want to include an image gallery to your page you can press the Picture gallery button in the editor toolbar or use the following tags:
<pre>
<pre>
<gallery>
<gallery>
Line 88: Line 293:
</pre>
</pre>

Automatic linking to pages
If you want to make a slideshow gallery the code will look like this:
FCVG uses the LinkTitles extension. This means that instead of having to use tags for every link the extension will take care of the links to other pages within the site automatically.

If you wish to exclude a word or a text from being autolinked you can wrap it in the following tags.
<pre>
<pre>
<noautolinks>This text will not have automatic links</noautolinks>
<gallery mode="slideshow" style="margin: 0px;">

The category namespace is different from the main namespace by having the prefix Category: in front of the page name. For example, the Video Games category consists of all pages on the site that are video games. |-
For embedding videos to your page use this code:

Example:
<pre>

References
Referencing (also called citing) can be done by clicking the Reference button in the source editor toolbar, or the Cite button in the visual editor.

<br>
FCVG uses the Cite extension which provides footnotes to a page. Note that the reference tags in the text differ from the reference tag in the footnote. You will need both to make a complete reference. To make a complete reference you would simply insert the following code.
<pre>

This is the official user guide for Forklift Certified Video Games (FCVG) written by Admin to assist both new and seasoned editors in the usage of the site. Here you will learn how to utilize the many features of the site and to work with Wikitext. Feel free to navigate to your desired topic from the contents box below.

Account

FCVG requires you to have an account to create and edit content. To receive the neccessary permissions your account must have a verified e-mail address. Upon account creation a link to verify your e-mail address is sent to your inbox.

Account creation

To create an account and start editing the wiki, simply press Create account in the upper right corner of the site.

FCVG does not require you to add any personal information to register, however during registration you can choose to include your real name if you wish. Your email-address is used to activate your account and to reset your password in case you forget it.

Social profile

Your social profile displays information about your activity on the site, such as friends, statistics and your personal message board. Note that you must have your e-mail address activated to access the features of your social profile. Some features also require you to have at least 1 creation/edit on the site to be activated.

Gifts

You can send gifts to other users by navigating to their profile page and clicking the "Send a gift" link at the top menu. To create your own gifts go to the Gift Manager.

Wiki userpage

In addition to your user profile you are free to create your own wiki userpage which is linked from your profile as shown below:

You are free to be creative and make your wiki userpage unique. You can write about video games, forklifts, and anything in between. You can even use it as your personal blog. Take a look at the example UserWiki page further down in the guide if you are struggling with ideas.

Preferences

In the preferences of your account you can change your password and set your preferred language among many other things. You can find the link to your user preferences at the top right corner of the site while logged in.

Keep in mind that any contribution you do must be approved by a moderator before being published. Meanwhile you can keep editing your page as many times as you'd like, but changes are not visible to others until your contribution has been approved.

Create page with form

This is the recommended method to create pages here at FCVG.

Quick guide:

 1. Upload any pictures you want to use for your new page.
 2. Input the title of the page you want to create.
 3. Fill out the form fields and click "Save page". Done!

If you want to change anything later just press the "Edit with form" link.

Full guide:

While logged in you will see two input fields with buttons on top of the main page. Create game page and Create forklift page. These buttons are linked to their respective forms.

After you input the name of the video game or forklift you want to create, simply press the corresponding button next to the input field and the form will open with the text you wrote as the new page title.

Inside the form you are able to add pictures and content for your new page. When all fields are filled out you can press the preview button at the bottom of the form to look over your page for any errors before saving. When you are satisfied with your creation, press "Save page".

Below are explanations for each of the available fields within the game form:

Infobox details

 • Cover image: Write the file name of your previously uploaded cover image and choose it from the list, or upload a new image with the Upload file link.
 • Release date: Input the date when the game was first released.
 • Developer(s): Input the developer of the game. Separate several with commas.
 • Publisher(s): Input the publisher of the game. Separate several with commas.
 • Platform(s): Click the input field and choose the platforms where the game is available from the list.
 • Genre(s): Click the input field and choose the genres for the game from the list.
 • Mode(s): Click the input field and choose the modes for the game from the list.
 • Optional fields: Here you can add up to 3 more details about the game. Input the title of the detail in the label field, and the description of the detail in the data field.

Page content

 • Introduction: Write a short introduction about the game including story and plot.
 • Gameplay: Explain how the game mechanics work.
 • Forklifts: Write about the forklifts found in the game.
 • Gallery images: Write the file names of your previously uploaded images and choose them from the list, or upload new images with the Upload file links. The caption fields provides complementary text below the images.
 • Notes: Add any references here and provide links to sites where the content is retrieved along with applicable licenses.
 • Categories: Add categories the page should belong to here. All categories used in the infobox should be added. Note that the "Video Games" category is added by default to the game form.

Below are explanations for each of the available fields within the forklift form:

Infobox details

 • Forklift cover: Write the file name of your previously uploaded cover image and choose it from the list, or upload a new image with the Upload file link.
 • Engine type: Click the input field and choose the source of energy of the forklift from the list.
 • Max speed: Provide the top speed of the forklift if applicaple. If not, write "N/A".
 • Color(s): Input the colors available for the forklift. Separate several with commas.
 • Function(s): Click the input field and choose the functions for the forklift from the list.
 • Optional fields: Here you can add up to 3 more details about the forklift. Input the title of the detail in the label field, and the description of the detail in the data field.

Page content

 • Introduction: Write a short introduction about the forklift.
 • Design: Explain how the forklift looks.
 • Gameplay: If drivable, explain how the forklift feels.
 • History: Write about the lore of the forklift.
 • Locations: List the in-game locations where the forklift can be found.
 • Appearances: If the forklift appears in any other games or media, add them here.
 • Trivia: Any fun facts about the forklift should be added here.
Note that the "Forklifts" category is added by default to the forklift form.

Remember that you can use Wikitext to sprite up your page in any of the input fields. Experiment and check with the preview button until you're satisfied with how your new page looks.

Please follow the rules when contributing!

Edit page with Visual Editor

Please follow the rules when contributing!

Edit page with Source Editor

Note: This guide is a work in progress.

Visual editor

The visual editor is known for its easy to use interface, yet powerful functions. It works in a similar fashion to Word and enables you to write text directly onto the page, while using the toolbar at the top to style the text or insert images, galleries, tables, links and references (Cite dropdown).

Source editor

The source editor is for wiki power users and can be intimidating at first. However it gives complete freedom of creativity, and as soon as you get the hang of basic Wikitext it becomes a loyal companion.

Please refer to the Wikitext basics section further down in the guide to utilize the full potential of the source editor.

Moving pages

Note that moving pages is restricted for regular users. This is a measure to prevent vandalism. If the title url of a page is incorrect/mistyped you can request it to be moved to a new title/url by the Admin.

Wikitext basics

Wikitext allows you to style your page content to your needs. It's relatively easy to use and gives you full control over the page design. You can toggle on the preview window in the source editor to see the changes to your content in real time.

Infobox

Infoboxes are tables commonly used to display important information about the topic of each page. They are usually placed to the upper right of the rest of the page content. To achieve this we place the following code to the top of the page within the source editor:
colspan="2" style="text-align: center; font-weight: bold;"|Example-title
colspan="2"|
Release||01. January 2000
Developer(s)||Example-developer
Publisher(s)||Example-publisher
Platform(s)||Example-platform<br>Example-platform 2
Genre(s)||Example-genre<br>Example-genre 2
Mode(s)||Example-mode

Now you can replace the example fields in the infobox table manually with the proper content you want displayed on the page.

Line break and headers

To make a line break in the text, simply use the following tag:
<br>
Headers are used to divide text into sections. It also automatically creates the contents box at the top of the page, linking to the sections making it easier to navigate for the reader. To make a header 1 text place your text within two equals signs:
My header 1 text
Use four equal signs for secondary headlines:

My header 2 text
Or six equal signs for header 3:

My header 3 text
Links

To add internal links just wrap the link to the page you want to link to using double brackets:
Link to internal page

To make a custom link text do this:

Custom link text

To add external links use single brackets, and separate the URL from the custom text at the end like this:

Example custom text

Categories

Category is a MediaWiki namespace where other pages within the category are listed alphabetically. The category namespace is different from the main namespace by having the prefix Category: in front of the page name. For example, the Video Games category consists of all pages on the site that are video games. To make your page part of the video games category, you would simply write the following at the bottom of the page.

Single-player

Images

To upload an image to use on your page you can press the Upload file link in the left sidebar of the page:

If you are currently editing a page navigate to the Images and media button in the toolbar of the editor:

To use your uploaded image on your page, simply place the image file name into file tags like this:

The image file name can be found on the uploaded image page, or you can open the image and copy it directly from the browser URL.

Note: The maximum size limit per image is 1MB.

Gallery

If you want to include an image gallery to your page you can press the Picture gallery button in the editor toolbar or use the following tags:
<gallery>
example-image.jpg|example-image-text
</gallery>

If you want to make a slideshow gallery the code will look like this:

<gallery mode="slideshow" style="margin: 0px;">
example-image.jpg|example-image-text
</gallery>

Videos

For embedding videos to your page use this code:

Example:

Result:

References

Referencing (also called citing) can be done by clicking the Reference button in the source editor toolbar, or the Cite button in the visual editor.

FCVG uses the Cite extension which provides footnotes to a page. Note that the reference tags in the text differ from the reference tag in the footnote. You will need both to make a complete reference. To make a complete reference you would simply insert the following code.
