Max Payne is a 2001 third-person shooter game developed by Remedy Entertainment. The game follows the story of Max Payne, a former NYPD detective who becomes an undercover DEA agent after his wife and newborn daughter are murdered by drug addicts high on a designer drug called "Valkyr". As he investigates the drug trade, Max becomes entangled in a complex conspiracy involving a major pharmaceutical company, organized crime, and a secret society.
The game features a gritty neo-noir style and uses graphic novel panels with voice-overs as its primary means of storytelling, drawing inspiration from hard-boiled detective novels.
The Game Boy Advance version is different from the others as it features an isometric view, but the story and many of the gameplay elements remains the same.
