Yakuza 0 is an action-adventure game set in late 1988 during Japan's bubble era, serving as a prequel to the original Yakuza game.
The story follows Kazuma Kiryu and Goro Majima as they become entangled in a conflict between Yakuza factions over a small piece of land known as the "Empty Lot".
Kiryu, a junior member of the Dojima Family, is suspected of murder after a man he collected a debt from is found dead in the Empty Lot, which is central to a redevelopment project.
To prove his innocence, Kiryu investigates the murder while navigating the complexities of Yakuza politics. Meanwhile, Majima, a disgraced Yakuza member, works as a cabaret manager in Sotenbori and is drawn into the conflict as well. The game explores their intertwined stories, leading to significant developments in their lives and the Yakuza world.
