Metal Slug 4 is a run & gun arcade game for the Neo-Geo console/arcade platform, developed by Mega Enterprise along with Noise Factory and Playmore. It was released in 2002 for the Neo-Geo MVS arcade platform, and is the fourth game in the Metal Slug series. Two years later, Playmore published Metal Slug 4 for consoles. Metal Slug 4 retains the same gameplay as previous titles, with the addition of some enemies, bosses, weapons, several vehicles and a bonus combo system. It was ported to Xbox and PlayStation 2 as a stand-alone game in Japan and Europe, and along with Metal Slug 5 as a compilation in North America and South Korea. The Nintendo Switch version was released in 2018. A bonus scoring system was added that allows the player to be rewarded depending on how many enemies are killed in the time allotted. The time allotted is determined from the type of emblem that is picked up. In the game, a cyber-terrorist group has struck out at the world by unleashing a computer virus through the internet with a sole purpose of hijacking the militaries of the world's nations. Join Marco, Fio, and new Metal Slug team members Trevor and Nadia to stop the distribution of the virus before it's too late. The game features six challenging stages and a wide array of unique enemies. The game also includes new vehicles such as the M-15A Bradley, Metal Crow, Walking Machine, and Forklift. Additionally, the game introduces the Metallish System, which allows players to earn medals by racking up points, and increased Slug Defenses, where Slugs take four hits instead of three.
The forklift is an ordinary forklift, the player can only shoot with their own gun. The player is restricted to three directions, so they cannot shoot downwards nor arc the Heavy Machine Gun's bullets. While the Forklift is invincible, it cannot protect the player from enemy attacks.
Much like the Drill Slug, pressing the cannon button launches the forklift's fork and deals massive damage. This attack uses its' own "ammo". Pressing the jump button causes the Slug to jack upwards, and pressing the button again returns it back to the floor.
The Forklift appears in Mission 5 alongside the Metal Claw after passing the crank. The player is automatically dismounted from the Forklift right before entering the next section.
