In Shenmue the player can earn an achievment/trophy by finishing first in the daily forklift race that Ryo must participate in.
Guide
Once you get a job at the New Yokosuka Harbor District you'll take part in a daily forklift race. This can be a little tricky, so consider saving before you sleep the night before work, so that you can reload the save until you win. The way to do this is to push the stick fully to the side to swing round the corners, try not to hit or get caught on anything, and undertake on the inside of corners where you can. If you are ahead of the forklift you are undertaking then you should make it through. There's a bit towards the end of the lap where you can cut through where the AI drivers don't, but it doesn't save that much time.
By the last lap, you should either be in front or directly behind forklift number 1. If you're behind forklift number 1, keep close to it but don't attempt to undertake until you get to that last shortcut. You need to be close behind it for this to work.
This trophy is considered missable as you are only able to attempt this during the time you work at the harbor. The exact number of days will vary depending on how fast you play through the game, when you trigger story cutscenes and whether you meet quota each day. It's advised to go for this as soon as you get the job at the harbor to ensure you don't accidentally miss the trophy and have to start again on a new playthrough.
