Contra Force is a run & gun action platformer developed by Konami for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in 1992. Originally planned as a standalone title called "Arc Hound" in Japan, it was rebranded as a Contra spin-off for its North American release, despite having no narrative ties to the main series.

Gameplay

The game features four selectable characters, each with unique weapon configurations, a first for the franchise. The campaign consists of five stages that alternate between traditional side-scrolling (Stages 1, 3, and 5) and top-down overhead perspectives (Stages 2 and 4). Players must fight through waves of enemies and defeat a powerful boss at the end of each stage.

Forklifts

In the side-scrolling warehouse and dock environments, pixelated forklifts appear as static obstacles or environmental set dressing. Their 8-bit design captures the industrial aesthetic common in 90s action games, providing cover or platforms during intense firefights.
