California Speed is a racing video game originally developed and published by Atari Games for arcades in 1998, later ported to the Nintendo 64 in 1999 by Midway. The game features point-to-point races set across various cities and rural areas in California, with players competing against computer-controlled opponents or other players in multiplayer mode.
Players can choose from a selection of cars with either automatic or manual transmissions, and races include hazards such as civilian traffic as well as opportunities to perform stunts like flips and wheelies. The arcade version of the game allowed up to four cabinets to be linked together for four-player racing, while the Nintendo 64 version included support for the Controller Pak and the Rumble Pak.
