The HVY Forklift in Grand Theft Auto 4 is a utility vehicle that appears in the game, featuring a design based on real-life models such as the Yale GLP060VX, Samuk forklifts, and CAT forklifts. It is a slow-moving vehicle with low power, front-wheel drive, and rear steering, making it difficult to control due to its high center of gravity and short wheelbase. The forklift has a propane tank at the rear, which can be shot, causing it to leak ignited gas or explode, with safety illustrations on the vehicle warning "YOU WILL DIE".
In GTA IV, the forklift is available with two minor variations of yellow body color and a blue or red tank in the rear. However, unlike in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, the lift on the forklift is not operable in GTA IV, meaning players cannot raise or lower the forks. The default radio station in the forklift is Liberty Rock Radio 97.8.
The forklift can be found in various locations, such as the Sprunk warehouse in Bohan, Happiness Island, Acter Industrial Park in Alderney, Port Tudor, and East Hook in Broker. Players can steal the forklift and deliver it to Stevie's garage after completing all of his requests, earning a reward of $2,500. Despite its slow speed, the forklift has the fastest acceleration of any vehicle in GTA IV, reaching top speed in 3.4 seconds.
The forklift is not used in any major story missions in GTA IV, but it may appear in minor scenarios or during heists. It is also available in Grand Theft Auto 5 and GTA Online, where the lift feature is re-activated.
