Tony Hawk's American Sk8land is a 2005 skateboarding video game developed by Vicarious Visions and published by Activision, serving as the handheld companion to Tony Hawk's American Wasteland and the first entry in the series for the Nintendo DS. Released in October 2005 for the Game Boy Advance and November 2005 for the DS, the game features a story mode where a custom skater travels from the Midwest to Los Angeles to help a comic artist named Mindy renovate a dilapidated skatepark called "American Sk8land."
Gameplay
The game introduced several innovative features to the franchise, including online multiplayer via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, which supported 1v1 matches in modes like Trick Attack and Combo Mambo, and the ability to record custom sound clips using the DS microphone.
While the story was toned down compared to its console counterpart, the gameplay retained the series' signature depth with flatland tricks, grind extensions, and a unique "Freak Out" mechanic that allowed players to regain points after bailing by tapping rising bars on the touch screen.
Forklifts
In the GBA version there are a couple deformed-looking forklifts found in the Warehouse level. They can be gapped and the player is then rewarded with the trick "Fork Air".
There are no reports of forklifts found in the DS version.
