The HVY Forklift appears in Grand Theft Auto 5 and Grand Theft Auto 4. The Forklift is powered by a 5-tonne engine and is a single-speed vehicle that runs on a gas cylinder/canister. It moves at quite a slow speed and is very fragile to crashes or gunfire. The gas canister on the back, if shot, can explode and destroy the vehicle as well. If it tips to the side, the Forklift can no longer be brought back up to its upright position on its wheels due to its weight distribution.
Design
The Forklift is a yellow Utility vehicle used to help lift up boxes or trailers in industrial areas or factories. The design of the Forklift is just like any traditional Forklift with the lift at the front that can be moved upwards and downwards.
It appears to be heavily influenced by the Yale GLP060VX Forklift model. It is powered by a gas canister that is either LPG or just Propane gas.
Gameplay
While slow, the HVY Forklift is able to lift heavy objects and even flip cars. Its physics-based hydraulic function makes it an entertaining vehicle to maneuver.
The Forklift in Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online is only slightly different from GTA IV, in that the low-center of gravity becomes stiffer and therefore tipping is less likely; but it can now manage to lay on its side without flipping back (due to its increased mass). The engine remains the same, bearing the same silence noise and gas-powered model (evidenced by the rear gas canister mounted above the engine), but now accurately powering the rear wheels.
History
- The HVY Forklift was available from the game's release in 2013.
- In 2021 HVY branding (clothing) was added to the game, reinforcing its "American Workwear" branding.
- In 2023 it was used briefly in setups for the Acid Lab mission.
- In January 2026, a major odd job update added official forklift work where players can work for Alpha Mail near LSIA, loading cargo onto conveyors to earn money, RP, and unlock a special outfit.
Locations
- Many can be found in the Port of Los Santos and are particularly common around Terminal.
- Spawns in Devin Weston's hangar at the Los Santos International Airport.
- Can rarely be found in the farms out in the countryside near the McKenzie Field Hangar.
- Almost always parked next to a building on a dirt road just off Grapeseed Main Street, near the intersection north of the Alamo Sea.
- Can be found at the railyard near Pillbox Hill Medical Center.

Trivia
- A wrecked forklift can be found right inside the powerplant, near the cooling pipes that lead to the ocean.
