The Outer Worlds is a single-player first-person sci-fi RPG developed by Obsidian Entertainment, set in a corporate dystopian universe where players awaken decades after being lost in space, only to find themselves in the midst of a deep conspiracy threatening the Halcyon colony.
The game is often compared to the Fallout series, with its classic RPG sensibilities, punchy combat, and consistently excellent writing. Players can choose their path through the story, with decisions affecting the narrative and relationships with companions.
The game features a robust character creation system and an RPG stat and skill system, though some players have noted that the game's replayability is limited due to the lack of variety in playthroughs.
The game's combat is functional, with a VATS-like bullet-time system. The game's exploration is praised for its smaller, more focused story hubs, but the game's areas can feel small in scope compared to other open-world games.
The AI controlled forklifts known as Automechanical Loaders are spread out everywhere in the game world, and provides some humorous scenes for the player.
