XCOM: Enemy Unknown is a turn-based tactical strategy game developed by Firaxis Games and published by 2K Games. It is a re-imagining of the classic 1994 game UFO: Enemy Unknown, also known as X-COM: UFO Defense.
The game is set in a contemporary world where an alien invasion threatens humanity, and players take on the role of the commander of XCOM, an elite international organization tasked with defending Earth from the extraterrestrial threat.
The game combines strategic base management with turn-based combat, allowing players to recruit and train soldiers, research alien technologies, and plan combat missions.
The story follows the efforts of XCOM to combat the alien invasion, with the game's narrative focusing on the challenges faced by the organization as they work to protect humanity from the alien forces. The game was released in 2012 and received critical acclaim, with its sequel, XCOM 2, released in 2016.
